RICS Lifetime Achievement award for former chair
LionHeart’s former chair, Peter McCrea FRICS, has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement award at last night’s RICS Awards.
It comes just a few months after he was recognised with an OBE for his services to LionHeart and the wider surveying profession.
Peter stepped down as chair of the board this summer after serving six years, making him the charity’s longest-serving chair in recent decades.
Announcing his lifetime achievement award at the ceremony at Park Plaza in London, judges said: “Throughout his time on the Board Peter has worked tirelessly to improve the way in which the (LionHeart) board conducts its business in support of the charity to widen its reach.
“He has ensured the opportunity of board membership is broadened to welcome surveyors and non-surveyors from a range of backgrounds. Peter has given hundreds of hours in service to the profession, to members and their families, and deserved to be recognised for his contribution.”
Peter said: “I was both astonished and delighted to receive the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award, particularly as the event enabled me to highlight, as we move into the subscription renewal period, the vital importance of the profession continuing to support LionHeart, so it can be there whenever and wherever the surveying family needs assistance.”
LionHeart’s current chair, and formerly Peter’s vice chair, Philippa Sampson-Bancroft FRICS was also present to see him receive the award.
She said: “I am so pleased that Peter’s contribution has been recognised in this way in the year he steps down from LionHeart. After almost eight years as a trustee, including six as chair, this voluntary commitment to the charity has amounted to hundreds and hundreds of hours, all motivated by the fact that he wanted to support it to support his fellow professionals in the best way possible.
"I know I speak on behalf of the board and staff team when I say how grateful we are for his time, energy and commitment.”
Since first attending his local branch meeting in 1991, Peter's involvement with RICS has included serving on Governing Council, forming the Derby Local Association, serving on the East Midlands Regional Board, sitting as an APC assessor for 15 years, on the Disciplinary Panel for four years, on the President's Panel of Arbitrators and Independent Experts for ten years, as well as his involvement with LionHeart. He is currently a Trustee of the University College of Estate Management, and in the summer was awarded the OBE for service to the profession.
