Losing your job, your income and often your sense of self can be devastating. Recent challenging economic conditions means that more and more people have found themselves affected by unemployment and redundancy.
If you need some advice on your employment rights we can give general advice or, if you're in the UK, signpost you to specific sources of free employment law advice. In some circumstances we may be able to refer you to an employment law solicitor for initial telephone based legal advice.
We can help you navigate the system to claim any state benefits you might be entitled to.
If you are finding things difficult financially due to unemployment or redundancy we may be able to provide some financial assistance in the form of a grant.
If you are eligible for financial assistance from us we can also offer you access to our Back to Work scheme. The scheme can also be offered to overseas members (including ROI) on a more limited online, phone and email correspondence basis.
The sudden loss of employment may cause emotions that are difficult to deal with and knock you completely off track. Even if you are not in any immediate financial need you can still contact us to request some counselling.
RICS offers concessions on members' subscriptions for unemployed members, but the deadline to apply for this is 31 December each year. Often members delay contacting RICS in the hope that they will shortly be back in employment, but it is always advisable to contact RICS as early as possible.
We also offer a range of webinars that might help you if you are looking for work, which include CV writing, interview skills and other topics such as confidence building and using social media platforms like LinkedIn to build your profile.
